Job Description - Director of Organizing at American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina

The American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina (ACLU-NC) is seeking a Director of Organizing to build and manage an organizing infrastructure that defends and strengthens civil liberties and civil rights in North Carolina. This role involves developing and executing integrated advocacy campaigns on issues such as voting rights, reproductive rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, immigrant rights, and criminal legal system transformation.

Key Responsibilities

Campaign Planning and Execution:

  • Develop and implement clear organizing strategies for integrated campaign objectives.
  • Create detailed campaign plans in collaboration with key departments.
  • Mobilize support at community events and recruit volunteers.
  • Work with impacted communities and develop volunteer leaders.
  • Facilitate training and outreach for community engagement.
  • Develop persuasive outreach materials for organizing purposes.

Capacity Building and Management:

  • Oversee recruitment, hiring, and training of organizing staff.
  • Manage a team of organizers with aligned goals and responsibilities.
  • Implement organizing technology tools and training programs.
  • Develop metrics-based reporting and monitor progress towards goals.
  • Manage the departmental budget effectively.

Requirements

  • Five to seven years of organizing and field program management experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong time management and public speaking abilities.
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and civil rights advocacy.
  • Knowledge of various organizing styles and models.
  • Experience in volunteer development and staff management.
